Following on from a comment I heard while at the gym made me contemplate how we live our lives? The comment was with regards to hiring a personal trainer – I let them do all the thinking. I have nothing against hiring a personal trainer and feel that they do a wonderful job. However, at what stage do we take control of our lives rather let someone else control our lives?
This made me think of a conversation I had had years ago when waitressing and a customer made the comment, that an automatic car is generally driven by someone who doesn’t want to take control of the their life and the direction it takes. On the other had a person who drives a manual needs to constantly think about where they are and what they are doing in the vehicle so they are likely to be constantly thinking about their life and considering where they want it to go, at what pace and are likely to change direction quicker when it is going in a less desirable direction.
How many of us stop to ponder this concept? How many adults are teaching their children to blame someone else for the situation they find themselves in instead of looking to their thoughts, attitudes and actions to see how they have attracted the situation to themselves to learn from. Perhaps life is taking a different direction if we all end up on bikes.
